How to use the home renovation calculator

House rollover: Enter your house value, then rollover the house and click on the ‘hotspots’ to reveal the different renovation options and see the estimated home value increase and estimated profit you could achieve displayed on the left. To make it even more useful, we added a budget/standard/luxury option so that if you wanted to splash out a little more then you could factor that in.

The full table of results shows all the renovation projects available within your budget. Enter the value of your home and the budget you have for renovation at the top of the table and click the 'results' button. Displayed underneath are all the renovation projects that you could complete on your house and the estimated profit you could make from each one. You can reorder the estimated values shown in the list depending on the cost of project, value increase of your home and the profit returned on your investment. This is where you could find the perfect project within your budget.

If you have a house that is valued at more than £500,000, then bear in mind that the profit shown in the calculator may be a little more generous than you can expect in reality. We’ve tried to be as accurate as possible, but every renovation project is different and can hit snags along the way that prove to be costly. And when having your house revalued remember that different regions and market fluctuations are going to have a big difference on what the value is from one month to the next. The costs of renovations we have used in the calculator are average costs across the UK.

Please use our calculator as a guide and before you start a large project on your home, we recommend getting two or three quotes from different suppliers and a trustworthy tradesperson (with references).
