What are travel money cards?
Our travel money cards are an alternative way to spend money when traveling abroad. Before your trip, you can load euros onto your card and manage your travel money without carrying cash. They’re slightly different to standard debit and credit cards as you won’t get charged the same fees for spending overseas and can be safer than carrying large amounts of cash around with you.
Key benefits of loading euros onto a travel money card
Loading up a travel money card with euros offers a host of benefits compared with other methods of spending abroad. These include:
- Apply for multiple cards – take out more than one travel money card and link them to the same account – perfect for family holidays or for leaving a backup in the safe.
- Manage your card via the app – check your balance, transfer funds, make secure payments, freeze your card and more – all from our app.
- Avoid charges – travel cards don’t charge a foreign exchange fee when you spend abroad, so they’re typically cheaper to use in Europe than a standard debit or credit card.
- Built in security – our card has chip and PIN protection as well as secure contactless features. They can also be cancelled if they are lost or stolen.
- Helpful currency conversion – if you don’t spend all your euros on your trip it’s easy to convert your euros to other currencies ready for your next holiday.
What can you use your card for?
You can use your card in many ways – including instore transactions, cash withdrawals and online purchases. Be mindful that you can only spend the amount that you load onto the card, but you can always top it up online or via the app.
Daily spending
You can use it in the same way you use a debit or credit card - chip and PIN or contactless.
Withdrawing cash in Europe
Visit any local ATM and withdraw cash with your card. We won’t charge you for any withdrawals, but some ATMs may charge their own fee.
Online purchases
Use your card to make online purchases. Just enter the card details at checkout and pay in euros.
How to order your travel money card
Ordering a card is easy. You can collect instore or order online for delivery – the choice is yours.
Collect instore
When you order for next day collection, you can visit your local instore bureau at stores across the UK. You can pop in at a time that suits you and leave with a card. You can also get your PIN number along with the card. Check ahead for bureau opening hours.
Order online for delivery
If you order for delivery, your travel money card will be delivered to your address in 3-5 days free of charge. After getting the card, you'll receive the PIN a few days later. All home deliveries require a minimum value of £100. When it arrives, simply sign the back and it’s ready to go.

Buying euros: FAQs
Is it worth getting a prepaid card?
This depends on your personal circumstances and the plans you have for your trip. Travel cards provide a safe alternative to carrying large amounts of cash and come without the fees you get charged when spending overseas on a standard debit or credit card. They are handy for keeping track of your spending, as you can only spend the preloaded amount on the card. Some don’t charge for foreign transactions or cash withdrawals, which can also make them more affordable.
Are travel cards better than cash?
Travel cards aren’t necessarily better than cash but they can be easier than carrying around large amounts of cash. You can load euros onto the card and use it to spend in store, withdraw cash and make purchases online. They can also be cancelled immediately if they are lost or stolen, so your money is still safe.
Is it better to load euros on to a travel money card or use a credit card?
It's up to you and depends on the things you buy while traveling abroad. For some people it may be better to top up a travel money card with euros before you go to lock in a good exchange rate. However, if you choose to travel with your credit card you will be charged the foreign exchange rate on the day and the fee associated with most credit cards – bear in mind exchange rates can vary daily. Credit cards can offer you more purchase protection but most customers will tend to use their travel cards for everyday spending (food, drinks, groceries and entry to tourists' attractions) which might not warrant this level of protection.
