Google Pay

A fast, simple, and more secure way to pay

A better way to pay, by Google

Google Pay™ is the fast, simple way to pay at millions of places – on sites, in apps, and in stores. It brings together everything you need at checkout and protects your payment info with multiple layers of security. With Google Pay, there’s no need to dig for your wallet—you can pay with your phone wherever contactless payments are accepted. Just wake up your Android phone and hold it near the reader until you see a check mark. You don’t even need to open the app.

With Google Pay, you can make secure contactless purchases above the £100 limit (merchant limits may apply).

When you use your phone to pay contactless, Google Pay doesn’t send your actual credit card number with your payment. Instead, an encrypted virtual account number is used to represent your info – so your real card details stay safe.

How to set up

Adding your Sainsbury’s Bank Credit Card to Google Pay only takes a few moments. The easiest way to do this is by using the Sainsburys Bank Mobile App and clicking into “Settings”, then just follow the instructions on screen.

If you aren’t already registered for the Sainsburys Bank Mobile App you can add your card using the Google Pay app. First, download the Google Pay app from Google Play or the App Store. Then, just follow the instructions in the app. For more detail see instructions 1-5 below. You can also set up Google Pay on the web at pay.google.com.

To add a card:

  1. Download Google Pay from the Google Play Store* and ensure NFC** is switched on
  2. Open the Google Pay app on your device
  3. Select ‘Payment’ and then '+ Payment Method' to add your card
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions, read and accept the terms and conditions
  5. Once your card is verified, you are ready to use Google Pay

*Google Pay works on Android devices running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher which support NFC or HCE
