Selling travel money is easy with Sainsbury’s Bank. Here’s how:
Head into a bureau
Visit one of our bureaux to sell currency. Many Sainsbury’s stores have a bureau, and they all offer currency buyback.
Swap currency on your Travel Money Card
Our Travel Money Card lets you transfer your holiday money into different currencies. You can also transfer foreign currency into Pounds to spend in the UK.

What is the exchange rate for buying back currency?
To find out our current buy back rates, head into your local Sainsbury's Bank travel money bureau. Rates change constantly in line with the market so we buy back currency at the rate on the day you return it, not the rate when it was bought.
Can coins be exchanged?
We don’t buy back coins. If you don’t want to keep hold of your foreign coins, we have a coin collection box at all our bureaux. The proceeds are donated to the Royal British Legion.
Which currencies can I sell back?
We buy back all the currencies we sell, including Euros, US Dollars, Australian Dollars, Polish Zloty, Turkish Lira, UAE Dirham, Swiss Francs and many more. See the full list of foreign currencies we buy back.
What is the minimum amount I can sell back?
The minimum amount we’ll buy back is the lowest denomination of note we sell, your local bureau colleague will be pleased to advise you. For example, we buy back 10 Turkish Lira notes which are worth around 25p, and we also buy back US$100 bills, which are worth about £80. We can accept any currency note as long as it’s in good condition.
What is the maximum amount I can sell back?
The maximum amount of foreign currency we can buy back is up to a value of £25,000. This limit is in place to prevent money laundering, but the average amount returned is much lower – in the region of £145.
Can I send currency to sell back in the post?
We don’t offer currency buy back via post due to the risk of money going missing. You’ll need to visit one of our bureaux to sell back currency. We have many across the UK. Find your nearest store.
Do I need to have bought the currency at a Sainsbury’s Bank bureau to sell it back?
No, just bring your unused currency back to your local Sainsbury’s Bank travel money bureau and we’ll exchange it back to pounds sterling cash. Please note that we buy back notes but not coins.
Can you pay the money back into my bank account?
We only exchange foreign currencies for cash. When you sell back currency to us, you’ll receive your money in notes and coins in Pounds.
