What is veterinary physiotherapy?
Veterinary physiotherapy or animal physiotherapy, is used to relieve pain, improve joint and muscle health, and help rehabilitate animals recovering from injury or surgery.
And just like with humans, vet physio can also help improve mobility and reduce the risk of further injury or damage.
What can physiotherapy help with?
Veterinary physiotherapy is commonly used on dogs (canine physiotherapy) and horses (equine physiotherapy) but it can be used for other animals too, including cats.
Working alongside your vet, it can be used to help your pet:
- Rehabilitate and recover following surgery
- Live more comfortably with common pet health problems and conditions such as hip dysplasia and arthritis
- Recover from a variety of injuries and conditions such as back pain, sprains and strains
Who can provide veterinary physiotherapy?
When it comes to your pet insurance, we’ll cover the costs of physiotherapy carried out by a registered veterinary practice or a member of an approved professional organisation.
How do I know if my pet needs physio?
If your pet is recovering from an operation or suffering from a health problem or condition, your vet may recommend a course of physiotherapy.
If your pet could benefit from physio, you can speak to a vet nurse using Sainsbury’s Bank Vet Assistance. When you protect your pet with Sainsbury’s Bank Pet Insurance, you’ve got 24/7 access to qualified vet nurses who are on hand to help with any queries you have about your pet’s health and wellbeing.
Make a claim
If your pet has already received physiotherapy treatment, or if your vet has recommended physio, you can go ahead and make a claim on your pet insurance. This is a vet fee claim so can be made via the pet portal.
It’s quick and simple to submit, track and manage a claim online in My Pet Portal.
Before your pet is treated, make sure your vet is prepared to complete a claim form, provide invoices and a full medical history.
